About the project

The Uganda to London documentary, completed by Clapham Film Unit in 2011, is seven linked stories about Ugandan exiles (four of which are featured here), giving a voice to seven Ugandans who left their home country and settled in London.

Their stories span 50 years of domestic and political upheaval. Our narrators share the experience of traveling under the age of 21 and having to make a new life in a new country.

They face being unable to fit in ‘back home’ and feel torn between duty there and a new life here. UG2LDN tells a moving story of families torn apart.

Pindi was sent to England aged 12. “I just remember the feeling of a family torn apart. Would we see our Dad again? Would he be alright ?”
